Rummy is an exciting game that deals with sets and consecutive numbers in specific suites. It is a relatively fast game, but also a game that takes more than a couple of minutes to finish as there are many stages to this game.

At the beginning of every single rummy game, either 7 or 13 cards are dealt to each player. There can be anything from two players to thirteen players sitting at one table. Each player picks up their cards, and the balance of the cards or the stock pile is placed on the table with the top card placed faced up on the table. This is referred to as the discard Pile.

Each player now sorts his/her cards into sets that are numerically and suit correct or into sets where the numerical value of the cards are the same. The first round will start with the person immediately to the left of the dealer and will follow around the table. Each player has to pick up one card either from the stock pile or from the discard pile. Once this card has been placed in the hand a card from the hand needs to be discarded. The next player will now repeat this action and so forth.

This will continue until a player is able to “play out” which means that out of the 7 or 13 cards that they are holding in their hands, they are either able to put down 6 or 12 consecutive numbers in the same suite and still have a card to discard, or they can make up different sets within these 6 or 12 cards with an extra card to discard.

Rummy is an old game that has survived through the years and is still played with as much enthusiasm is what it has always been played. There is a certain skill level that is needed to partake in this game, but it is a game that can be learnt quickly and easily.
